I have been with Bomba at BTT for the last 5 months. Bomba represents everything to do with BJJ and what it is about. Personally I feel a new side of me evolving thanks to Bomba’s training, relaxed approach and his 25 yrs of BJJ experience.. Best move I have made in the last decade with Bomba to show me the way!
Toby Jones, BTT Australia Sunshine Coast Student
A life changing experience to be taught by such a world class figure and to be part of the family Bomba created. Bomba teaches more than just a world class system… He teaches a way of life.
Remo Curcio, BJJ purple pelt – multiple time, State and National champion, Australian trials champ for Abu Dhabi Worlds
I came to Bomba’s club for the BJJ, stayed for the music, the chicken hearts, the hard training, the friends, the happy Saturdays and the Coopers. You know it’s a good club when one of the rules is “Sorria!”. I would train at any club that Bomba started in a heartbeat, because I know it would be quality jiu jitsu in an atmosphere of discipline, respect, friendship and fun.
Dave Sinclair, BJJ purple belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
I started my training with Bomba at BTT in 2009 and it was the best start to my Jiujitsu that I could have asked for. Bomba is a world class teacher, which can be seen by the fact that many of his students became state and national champions under his tuition. Others who started with Bomba have gone on to compete in the worlds and win the Abu Dhabi Pro Trials.
Not only is the training effective, Bomba’s gym atmosphere is like no other with its positive energy and enthusiasm. I was also lucky enough to meet and train with world Jiujitsu champions and a former UFC champion in Ricardo Liborio and Murilo Bustamante solely because of Bomba. If I were to move to Queensland, BTT Australia would be without question the team I would want to train at.
Richard Cooper, BJJ blue belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
I trained for several years with Gustavo Bomba when he was in Adelaide and I can guarantee that Bomba is a wonderful jiu-jitsu instructor. Bomba trains people not just to be a fighter but to be a better person through martial arts. He knows not just how to make a champion, but a cohesive training group that sticks together and looks after each other. These things don’t happen by themselves, they need a wise instructor to make them happen and Bomba knows how to do it. This is because Bomba has a world-class background and understanding of BJJ, being one of the original members of Brazilian Top Team, teaching right here in Australia. With Bomba coaching me I was able to win the 2011 South Australian BJJ Championship in the brown belt, but more than that, he helped me to develop not only my jiu-jitsu but to be a wiser and more responsible person. Today I am still using techninques on the mat that I learned training with Bomba, and in my mind each time one works, I say “thanks Bomba!”
Huw Jones, BJJ brown belt -– former Brazilian Top Team student
In November 2009 I decided to return to martial arts after recovering from a car accident in 1997 that caused me to retire from Muay Thai training and competition. I looked up several BJJ Academies and I eventually decided to attend BTT due to the prestige of the BTT name. The reason I continued to train though was due to the friendships that I made and the amazing depth of knowledge that Professor ‘Bomba’ Toledo was willing to share with us.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been an incredible experience not just for myself but also for my entire family as my partner and our children have recently started to learn BJJ also.
Shaun Wittmann, BJJ blue belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
I’ve being involved in martial arts for almost 30 years. Without a doubt, Gustavo Bomba is one of the coolest and nicest guys I’ve ever met.
His skills as a teacher and his charisma are outstanding.
Rodrigo Antunes, 3rd degree BJJ black belt – Gracie Humaitá Melbourne Head Coach
Gustavo “Bomba” Toledo was the first Brazilian Black belt to train in South Australia.
He brought his Brazilian style and technique that assisted me along with Michael to make the leap to be awarded my purple belt from him.
Gregg Toyama, AFBJJ-SA President
After training with one other BJJ club beforehand I went to train with Bomba at BTT adelaide. Unfortunately due to personal circumstance I was only able to train for about a year ,but the club was amazing. Bomba’s knowledge and teaching skills are amazing. I felt as though I was learning something new every class/session while also having fun and getting a good workout. As well as being a first rate instructor Bomba also makes sure everyone is treated with respect regardless of rank, race or age and training there felt like I was training with a group of close friends. I cant say enough good things about Bomba and the way he runs a BJJ class. Train with Bomba and you will not regret it. I wish he was back in adelaide running a club again.
Jason Leckstrom, former Brazilian Top Team student
It has been an absolute pleasure to train with you guys in Adelaide. I have met great people, I have learnt a lot about discipline, hard work and how to become a better martial artist. Thank you Bomba for your guidance and hard work. I wish you all the best in the future and I hope to come and visit soon.
Romina Rocha, BJJ purple belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
Having had many years training in martial arts, I think I have had enough experience to know a good teacher when I meet one. Bomba is definitely in that category, and I have had the pleasure and honor of learning under him and Brazilian Top Team. Not only did he systematically teach the required skills of Jiu Jitsu, he was always encouraging, pushed you to your limits but at the same time, emphasized and created a fun and social training environment. I will always be grateful for everything he has taught me.
Julian Toh, BJJ purple belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
Yes and I would like to echo Julian’s sentiments. Thanks very much for all you have done in teaching and promoting BJJ.
Graham Kuerschner, head instructor at Street Defensive Tactics
Bomba, thank you for everything that you have taught me in BJJ (or tried to as I wasn’t the quickest or most skilled learner). You are an amazing, talented, patient & knowledgeable teacher. You have touched all of our lives & we are better for having trained under you. I miss rolling with you back in the good ol’ days before we all went our separate ways!
Angela Duong, former Brazilian Top Team student
I was born in Sao Paulo and as everyone in Brazil was introduced to the martial arts scenario very young. Trained Judo for 5 years, a bit of capoeira and few lessons of boxing. BJJ really changed my life since the first lesson. Living in Brazil you have lots of places to training BJJ. Had great instructors Master Toti Pitoco Jordan and Master Paulo Nardy. I arrived in Australia as purple belt and in few weeks found myself teaching the art to few boys in SA. When I first met Bomba I knew that we would become good friends. Bomba taught me great things on and out the mats and still teaching me great stuff … I was honored to be his first student in Australia to be awarded the Black Belt and will be always thankful for all the knowledge he has passed on to me all these years… Obrigado Mestre!
Fabrício Mendonça, BJJ black belt – head instructor at Broz Jiu Jitsu
I would like to thank Gustavo Bomba for the opportunity to continue guiding and coaching his former students from BTT Australia Adelaide and for his constant support.
Leonardo Arruda, BJJ black belt – Arruda Jiu-Jitsu Head Instructor
When I trained with Bomba in Adelaide I was one of two or three women who trained. Bomba´s quiet and respectful leadership style ensured that the training environment was respectful and welcoming to women. I had trained in other gyms where women were not so welcomed or respected and so Bomba has my heartfult gratitude for teaching me BJJ and providing a space where women can safely roll. BJJ under Bomba´s instruction becomes a way to grow and develop positive personal qualities rather than a macho display of power and control. Thanks Bomba.
Alia Imtoual, Former Brazilian Top Team student
I started Jiu Jitsu over 4 years ago with Bomba and it changed my life. It has taken me all around Australia, to Malaysia and the United States.
I’ve met amazing people and lifelong friends. I owe Bomba immensley….
Kane Gehling, BJJ purple belt – multiple time, State champion.
Bomba is one of the most gifted, compassionate and knowledgeable teachers my son has ever had. Not only was my little boy trained by the best in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he was also taught about the importance of humility, discipline and always doing your best with a “smile on your face”. I count my son as fortunate to have been a student of Gustavo “Bomba” Toledo.
Michelle Padilla, Mom of a 5 years old former BTT student
As an uncle and a father, I was always excited to bring my boys to BTT. The love, direction and life lessons you and your team brought to them were second to none. As many people confess, you are to a degree a product of your environment and even in your absence, the modesty and confidence the boys have inherited directly from you I hope will remain with them for life.
Nick Pappas, Father and uncle of a 5 years old and a 16 years old former BTT students
Bomba was my first BJJ master. With him I learnt all the fundamentals of BJJ and the competition spirit. Apart from being a great teacher and full of knowledge, he always makes sure his students are healthy in their day to day life, he worries about you and pushes you to challenge life in all aspects, and he listens to you and supports you through bad times. In him you will find not just a great teacher, you will find a great friend and family. Obrigado por todo Bomba!
Paulo Barreto, BJJ purple belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
Gustavo Toledo is one of my most technical students. He has a vast experience in BJJ. A caring teacher who knows how to explain BJJ in detail, making the learning of the gentle art easy and pleasurable for his students.
Murilo Bustamante, UFC Legend, BTT Head Coach,5th degree BJJ black belt
Bomba is not just a great intructor but also a mentor in and out of the tatami, his classes are great fun showing a variety of techniques and lots of attention on details.
Tiago Ventura, BTT Australia Sunshine Coast Student
To anyone that reads this my name is Joel Vogler and I have had the pleasure of training with Gustavo and cannot thank him enough. When I began my BJJ training I was lucky enough to have him as an instructor. At the time I had no idea but Gustavo opened many doors and introduced me to a new world. Gustavo took a mixed group of people from all walks of life and turned them into a cohesive award winning team, I have lifelong friends from BTT because of Gustavo.
Joel Vogler, BJJ purple belt – former Brazilian Top Team student
